One day walking the NCRR Trail near Hanover Junction Pa., my husband and I stopped at the railroad station/ museum at the Junction. Abraham Lincoln stopped there in travelling to Gettysburg to deliver the Gettysburg address. Outside of the museum is a plaque with a statement by Emerson and a sculpture made of old bicycle parts. Along came two men from Texas holding a small device looking for a particular geographic spot. They were geocaching and looking for the Emerson quote. That was my introduction to GPS. GPs provides a position within 10 - 20 cm. (4 - 8 in.) of the true location. It is not only heavily used commercially but also for recreation in hiking, boating golfing etc. The museum and sculpture, by the way, are quite interesting so take out you bike or just walk there to see it. |
